What is the purpose of the Garland Area Democratic Club (GADC)?
GADC is an individual supported, voluntary, nonprofit, unincorporated general purpose political action committee (“PAC”) that is organized to further the aims of the National and State Democratic Party and platforms.
As a PAC, are you regulated by federal, state or local governing bodies?
PACs are highly regulated with the state elections / secretary of state’s office (for state PACs) or the Federal Election Commission (for federal PACs). There are regulations, and reporting requirements that apply for PACs.
Is there a minimum age?
While the GADC does not have a minimum age for membership, the person must possess the ability to understand and support the purpose of GADC to become a member.
Why do you need the name of my employer?
As a PAC, we are required to report our members’ employers’ information to the secretary of state’s office.
I plan on voting Democrat, so why should I become a dues-paying member?
Voting is very important and helpful. However, it takes a party infrastructure to recruit, train and support those candidates. And unfortunately it takes a lot of financial resources to do all that.
What time is the monthly meeting?
Meeting is from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. CST
Are there other meetings held within GADC?
Yes. The Executive Committee meets on the last Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Garland Central Library located at 625 Austin Street, Garland, TX 75040. All meetings of the Executive Committee are open to any of the membership.
How does GADC select its leaders?
A Nominating Chair shall be selected by the President at the September meeting every even year. The Chair shall select additional individuals to serve on the Nominating Committee. The Committee shall make its recommendation to GADC at the next November meeting. Nominations may be made from the floor for each office in addition to those submitted by the Nominating Committee.
How is GADC funded?
The GADC does not take special interest money or government funds; it relies on the support of people like you. The GADC host fundraising events and accepts donations to generate its funding.
When does the GADC fiscal year begin and end?
The fiscal year runs from January 1st – December 31st.

What is the role of a PAC?
In the United States, a political action committee (PAC) is a type of organization that pools campaign contributions from members and donates those funds to campaign for or against candidates, ballot initiatives, or legislation.
Who can become a member of GADC?
The general membership shall be open to anyone who supports the purposes of GADC as outlined in Article II “Purpose of the Organization” abbreviated version below:
- further the aims of the National and State Democratic Party and platforms by
- speaking out
- supporting Democratic nominees
- electing precinct chairs committed to GADC’s principles
- encouraging “grassroots” participation by Democrat
- enhancing the political knowledge of its members;
- encouraging the formation of “stable, well-organized” Democratic organizations in other areas
- increasing voter participation
How do I become a member?
Members must complete a membership form and provide current contact information including their employer and occupation to become a member.
Is there a membership fee?
Yes. There is an annual membership fee of $25 per person; plus an additional $5 for each family member or $150 for a lifetime membership.
When and how often do you meet?
We meet monthly on the second Thursday of each month
Where do you meet?
We meet every month at the Garland Women’s Activities Building, 713 E. Austin Street, Garland, Texas 75040.
Who makes up the governing body of GADC?
Elected officers make up the governing body of GADC. The elected officers of GADC are the President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
When do you elect the officers?
The officers of GADC is elected by a majority vote from its members at the November meeting in even years and shall be installed at the January meeting for a two-year term.
What does GADC allocate its funds?
As a PAC, we organized for the purpose of raising and spending money to elect Democratic candidates.

What forms of political actions does GADC support?
The GADC does sponsor and support collective political actions such as canvassing and registering voters, speech writing and speechmaking, working in campaigns, engaging citizens in discussions, and competing for public and party office. Other activities can include organizing rallies, economic sanctions, and legal sanctioned appeals; attending meetings by elected officials, monitoring elections, peacefully challenging or opposing legislative action, and communicating the party’s messages through press releases, social media and party-controlled news media.
